How to set up automatic delivery of posts from Local Viking with RSS to LinkedIn?

A quick guide on setting up automatic delivery of posts from Google My Business to LinkedIn. We will use zapier.com - a service for automation of information exchange between web applications.

We assume you have already had a LinkedIn account and access to it. 

Note: you need to have at least one post in your GMB Dashboard before setting up a translation.

  1. Go to zapier.com and register there. At the moment of writing Zapier provides for free accounts an opportunity to perform 100 tasks a month - should be enough for translation of 100 posts.
  2. Log in your Zapier account, you will be redirected to the "Dashboard" page. You will see "Create your own workflow form".
  3. Click the "Connect this app..." field, type "RSS" (without quotes), and select "RSS by Zapier" from the dropdown below
  4. Click "with this one!" field, type "LinkedIn" (without quotes), and select "LinkedIn" from the dropdown below.
  5. A new row of fields appears below.
  6. Click the "When this happens..." field and select "New Item in Feed" from the dropdown below.
  7. Click "then do this!" field and select "Create Share update" from dropdown below.
  8. Click the "Try it" button
  9. A form with settings for your exchange applet or "zap" will open.
  10. If you want to change its default name, click the name field in the top left angle of the screen, enter a new name, for example, "GMB Posts to LinkedIn" and press "Enter" on the keyboard.
  11. Open the new browser tab, go to https://localviking.com/gmb/locations page, and select the location you want to set up the delivery of posts from. On the "Dashboard" page right-click the "RSS" link on the right and choose "Copy link address".
  12. Return to the Zapier tab and paste the link you've just copied into the "Feed URL" input
  13. Hit the "Refresh fields" button.
  14. Click the "Continue" button.
  15. The "Test trigger" group of fields will appear. Click "Test trigger" button
  16. If everything worked well, you will see the "We found an item!" message
  17. Scroll down and click the "Continue" button.
  18. The "Create Share Update in LinkedIn" group of fields will appear. Click the "Continue" button.
  19. The "Choose account" group of fields will appear. Click the "Sign in to LinkedIn" button.
  20. A popup window with LinkedIn authorization will appear. Enter your LinkedIn credentials (email + password) and click the "Sign in" button.
  21. Another popup window requesting your permission to share your LinkedIn account data with Zapier will appear. Read it and if you agree click the "Allow button".
  22. You will return to the Zapier tab. Click the "Continue" button.
  23. "Set up action" group of fields will appear. 
  24. Scroll down, click the "Comment" field and select the "Description" value from the dropdown below. Click at any place of the form outside of the dropdown to close the dropdown.
  25. Click the "Visible To" field and select visibility options of your posts. For example, we will leave the default value "anyone".
  26. Click the "Content Title" field and select the "Description" value from the dropdown below.  Click at any place of the form outside of the dropdown to close the dropdown.
  27. Click the "Content Description" field and select the "Description" value from the dropdown below.  Click at any place of the form outside of the dropdown to close the dropdown.
  28. Click the "Content Image URL" field, and click "Show all options" in the dropdown below. 
  29. Find in the dropdown value "Raw Content @url" and select it. Click at any place of the form outside of the dropdown to close the dropdown.
  30. Click the "Content URL" field and select "Link" in the dropdown below. Click at any place of the form outside of the dropdown to close the dropdown.
  31. Click the "Refresh fields" button.
  32. Click the "Continue" button.
  33. The "Test action" group of fields will appear. Click the "Test & Continue" button below.
  34. You will see the message "A share update was sent to LinkedIn". 
  35. Open new browser tab, go to your LinkedIn profile and check the activity, you should see your post.
  36. Click "Turn on Zap" button below.
  37. You will see "Your Zap is on! Want to share a copy?" popup window. Click the "Close" button in the top right angle of the window to get rid of it.
  38. You've done it! The applet delivering your posts to LinkedIn is set up and "Connected" when you publish a new post for the location you've selected within 30 minutes or so it will be published to LinkedIn.
